With the recent major thunderstorms we thought we'd remind everyone of an important step in the process of taking care of your electronics.

Power surges, brownouts, power outages, and lightning strikes can all damage your electronics.

Most people believe power issues occur only through the electrical cord of your electronics, but power problems can also travel through other cords such as coaxial, telephone and Ethernet.

The only way to truly protect your equipment is to unplug all wires from your electronic devices. Now of course this would be very cumbersome to always unplug and then reconnect your electronics. Your next best bet is to invest in an APC battery backup unit.

These units can be purchased online or at your local electronics or office supply store. There are different levels of the protection that a battery backup unit can provide so make sure you get the right model for your needs.
